Buxton Junior School

Swimming at BJS

All schools must provide swimming instruction in either key stage 1 or key stage 2.

Pupils should be taught to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres and to use a range of strokes effectively.  They should also be taught to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

All children in year 5 have swimming lessons all year in order to be taught the above skills.  The children are assessed at the beginning of the year and are then taught in the appropriate group to match their level of ability.
