Dear Parents and Carers
It gives me great pleasure to write to you as the new headteacher of Buxton Junior School and to welcome you to the new school year. I would like to thank the staff, children and governors for the warm welcome I’ve received already.
I’m really excited to be joining Buxton Junior School as its new headteacher, having been headteacher of Peak Forest and Great Hucklow Primaries, about 10 miles from Buxton, for the last three years. Over my career, I’ve taught in big schools and small schools, rural and city schools, primaries and secondaries as well as taking a break from teaching to look after my two children.
I knew on my first visit to Buxton Junior School that the school was the perfect choice for me as headteacher. The children here are really positive, cheerful and keen to question and learn. I want to build on this curiosity by developing the curriculum into one where every child has the chance to experience a real variety of opportunities, both at school and beyond. I will be listening carefully to the views of the children, staff, parents and carers to ensure we develop a curriculum that is useful, engaging, challenging and fun.
I am looking forward to working with the whole school community and building on the school’s many strengths, including its fantastic staff team. I believe good relationships with parents and carers are vital to the success of the school and hope that by working together we can ensure all the children at Buxton Junior School thrive and make good progress, ready to leave with the right skills and positive attitudes for secondary school and beyond. I have high expectations of all the children and will continue to expect excellent attendance and behaviour and a positive approach to learning.
I am keen to meet as many of you as possible this term so I have organised two informal sessions in school so that you have an opportunity to share your views early in the school year. There will be a ‘Meet the Headteacher’ event on Wednesday 19th September from 6.30pm - 7.30pm and on Friday 21st September from 9.05am - 10.05am. I am hoping some staff and governors may also be able to attend.
My door is always open should you have any questions and I will try to be at the school gate or on the yard at the beginning and the end of the school day. I look forward to meeting you all over time.
Mrs R Carter
