PE Sports Premium Funding 2015-2016

PE Newsletter term 6 2016

Sports Premium Funding (Academic Year 2015/2016) £9050

The Sports Premium continues to fund improvements in the provision of PE and sport so that all pupils further develop healthy lifestyles. At Buxton Junior School we believe that sport contributes to the health and well-being of our pupils, and will continue to ensure that all our pupils participate in a variety of intra-school events. The Sports Premium further enhances competitive sport and improves our teaching skills in the delivery of high quality PE lessons.

During 2015-2016, the funding has provided opportunity for pupils to access a free after school Dance Club and provide lunchtime Athletics sessions.  We are hoping to run other free sessions later in the academic year, and pupils will be able to experience hockey ‘taster’ sessions and have the opportunity to access a local Hockey club if they wish.

Year 5 pupils have received training from High Peak Schools’ Sports Partnership to become Playground Play Leaders.

All Year 3 pupils will participate in Forest School Learning throughout the year.

Staff have accessed quality CPD and been released to plan alongside a Dance Specialist and also to observe PE lessons.  We hope to provide gymnastics training for staff later in the year.

Our PE Coordinator has attended local meetings where plans for local school sporting events have been arranged, and we have budgeted for extra staff and transport to allow us to participate in a range of tournaments and competitions including Map Quest, an orienteering competition. Buxton Junior School pupils came first in this event.

‘Healthy Schools Week’ was held in June.

Buxton Junior School received the Sainsbury's Silver Sports Award in July 2015 and the Sainsbury's Gold Sports Award in July 2016.
